2015 THE GREAT ITALIAN PASTA NIGHT

Pasta, wines, music and dancing combined to make the second very successful Great Pasta Night. The Social Committee and their helpers consisting of Debbie Code, Eileen McCormack, Dianne Phelan, Nicole Carriero, Carmel Egan, Megan Bourke, Lorraine Hampton, Lorraine McLean, Anne Jones and our Chef Carl Giardina prepared and cooked a delicious dinner consisting of two starters, 3 main courses and dessert. One of the mains was Carl's specialty. It is called Fusili alla Nonna, which is a blending of his and his mother's recipe. Carl started this sauce 5 hours before it was served. Another dish, Penna alla Byrone, was named after a delighted Bob Byron. This was a vegetarian sauce. The third was Penne alla Coda, a cream sauce with mushroom, bacon and parsley. Dessert was a beautifully presented chocolate and lemon gelato, which was so refreshing after dancing. Over 50 members came with their partners and friends, including our coach, Richard Lovell and his wife Heather. Bob Urquhart set up the music for the entire evening mainly with Carl's Italian dinner and dance CD's. We crooned and danced to "When the moon hits the sky like a big pizza pie ---That's Amore," and with Dean Martin's song Volare. We danced to O Sole Mio, Quando Quando Quando, Funiculi Funicula and many more. Matt Cursio danced all night. It just shows you can't keep a good Italian down, even with a broken wrist!! Like last year, it was a happy, noisy evening and so well done. I would say a special thank you to the effort made by His Angels---as Carl called them, the Social Commitee and their helpers..........Lyn Goodman.
